Wakulla County Jail inmate James Hollis was charged last week with smuggling a handgun inside the secure area of the jail, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
The Sun first reported on the situation a couple of weeks ago, but did not name the inmate under investigation because criminal charges hadn’t been filed.

Circuit Judge Ron Flury has been assigned to the case of former County Commissoner Mike Kemp after Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith recused himself.
Kemp, who faces felony charges of using a public record to harass and tampering with a witness, has been set to go to trial in March.

The Wakulla Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon-cutting on Friday, Dec. 19 for STIX, Wakulla’s brand-new state-of-the-art training facility!

One of most revered members of the worldwide scientific diving community and prominent Wakulla citizen and entrepreneur Gregg R. Stanton has been paid a lasting tribute by the FSU Coastal and Marine Laboratory.
Stanton, a Massachusetts native who settled in Wakulla County in the late 1970s, succumbed to a brief illness while living in Hawaii in 2024. He was 76.
