Wakulla Superintendent of Schools Rick Myrhe accepted this years Champion Award from the Wakulla Economic Development Commission.
Myrhe, recovering from recent cancer surgery, told EDC members that he hadn’t personally overseen the school district’s accomplishments praised by EDC, but that he would accept the award on behalf of the schools.

Former County Commissioner Mike Kemp’s felony cases have been put on the docket for a trial in March 2026, with docket sounding on March 4 and jury selection set for March 16.
Kemp was offered a deferred prosecution agreement, but appears to have declined to accept it. Kemp faces felony charges of using information from a public record to harass, a third-degree felony, plus a charge of tampering with a witness.

The county commission voted 4-1 to approve the proposed millage rate of 7.9 mills, and 4-1 to approve the tentative budget.
The lone dissenting vote was cast by County Commissioner Valerie Russell, who repeatedly told other commissioners that she wanted to give citizens a tax break.

The Wakulla War Eagles went down in a tough defeat to the Chiles Timberwolves on Friday night, 23-21, falling to 1-2 on the season.
It was a mistake-prone game with penalties that severely affected the War Eagles: penalties for holding negated three Wakulla touchdowns.
Without those calls, Wakulla would have won easily.

A 22-year-old Crawfordville man was sentenced to 20 years in state prison last week for human trafficking a young girl for sex.
The man, Sky Skidmore, entered a plea of guilty to the negotiated sentence on Tuesday, Aug. 26 before Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith.
If it appears we’ve shuffled pages around, sorry – our printer had problems with one of its presses, and in reaction we’ve had to change up where certain pages appear.
