Sun staffers and their books

Two Wakulla Sun staffers have recently published books or received awards:

  • “Sea the Music by the Bay,” by Sun photographer Gerald Brown, along with co-author Herb Donaldson, is about local musicians after Hurricane Michael. He will have a book signing at Palaver Tree on Friday, Aug. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m.
  • Sun religion columnist Sheryl Boldt finished third in the nationwide ACFW Kingdom KidLit Contest for her children’s book, “Zack’s Surprisingly Great Kind of a Day” in the category of Unpublished Picture Books, the largest category entered this year.

It’s time for War Eagle football!

The Wakulla War Eagles take the field before the Preseason Classic against the Madison Cowboys on Thursday night at JD Jones Stadium.

Klees: Team is looking for guys to step up

Last year’s Wakulla War Eagle team were a young bunch, says Head Coach Scott Klees.
This year, he says, he’s expecting those guys to grow up and be the team’s leaders.
Those players include Owen Klees at quarterback, son of the coach, a senior this year and coming off being named FCA’s Player of the Year last year. He is also the punter, and expected to play defense as a safety in certain packages.
Heath Milligan will also get some playing time as quarterback as well.

Deputy contends sheriff’s office is hostile workplace

A deputy in the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, part of the command staff, is claiming Sheriff Jared Miller fosters a hostile workplace environment.
Major Dale Evans, a longtime sheriff’s deputy who is over the office’s road patrol unit, filed a complaint against Sheriff Miller a couple of years ago – that was resolved, but he has filed new complaints about the office.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace now has Wakulla center

Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a nationwide organization that believes that “a bed is a basic need for the proper physical, emotional and mental support that a child needs…. We are a national organization answering the call to a national problem.” Having a safe and comfortable place to sleep helps a child feel more secure and is better able to focus in school with a better night’s sleep.
