As Hurricane Helene neared, and the county issued a mandatory evacuation order, the school district cancelled school and extracurricular activities – including Friday night’s big game against district rival Suwannee.

The game was briefly rescheduled for Monday night, but Wakulla Head Coach Scott Klees said Suwannee contacted him and said they couldn’t make it.
“Too many problems,” Klees said he was told.
When the game will be rescheduled is still up in the air, Klees said.
The upcoming game this Friday night against Tallahassee’s St. John Paul II is on.
With the last minute cancellation of Suwannee, Klees said Monday afternoon he was planning to play that night and hadn’t even looked at JP II.
He said his young football team will be dealing with a lot from the past week: the Suwannee game cancelled twice, and their last day of practice was Tuesday of last week.
“This Tuesday will be a normal Monday to try to get ready for John Paul on Friday.
“It will be interesting, coach-wise and player-wise, to see how we respond,” he said.
