You have your pick of activites for Saturday, beginning with the Coastal Cleanup at Woolley Park in Panacea which starts at 8 a.m
Unity in the Community holds its annual luncheon at the Community Center beginning at noon to honor those contributing to Wakulla.
The Festival of Joy is at Wakulla Springs Lodge from 1 to 4 p.m., celebrating special needs kids with a party.
And the Rotary Club of Wakullaโs Boots & Bingo will be held at 3Y Ranch beginning at 6 p.m. The event is Rotaryโs big fundraiser of the year for the clubโs community projects.

The Wakulla Sun had reached out last week to Superintendent of Schools Rick Myhre for comment about the first day of school, but he was out of the office for health reasons.
The day after our deadline, Myhre submitted a statement through the district office:
โThe first day of school is always one of my favorite times of the year. Thereโs an energy and excitement that comes with welcoming our students back into classrooms โ from our youngest Pre-K learners to our graduating seniors.

Just in time for the start of the new school year, thereโs been an adjustment to the school zone at Medart Elementary.
The school, located on Highway 98 just beyond the triangle where U.S. Highway 319 forks off towards Sopchoppy, has long had school zone flashers that tend to surprise unsuspecting drivers on the road, where the speed limit is 55 mph, and suddenly they come upon the flashing school zone lights and a drop in speed limit to 20 mph.


Because of an oversight when compiling last weekโs story on Wakulla Lady War Eagle softball players named to the All-Big Bend team, sophomore Parker Stubbs was inadvertently left out of the story.
Along with Cylie Long, named Softball Player of the Year, and Charley Butler, named Softball Pitcher of the Year, Stubbs was named to the All-Big Bend First Team.
A sophomore, Stubbs was an infielder for the Lady War Eagles who played 24 games, had a .342 average, with 26 hits in 76 at-bats, with one home run and 18 RBIs.
