Ochlockonee Bay merchants say Franklin County is leaving men there

The surveillance video shows a Franklin County deputy sheriff’s truck pulling into the parking lot around sunrise and letting off a man in shorts, shirtless though he’s holding a shirt, and shoeless. The deputy drops off the man and then drives away, headed back across the bridge to Franklin County.

Warned of Hurricane Helene becoming a Category 4 and possible storm surge of as much as 20 feet, Wakulla county commissioners issued a mandatory evacuation order for the entire county on Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Wakulla School Board held a special workshop on Monday, Sept. 30 to discuss with Superintendent-elect Rick Myhre and district staff some of the upcoming changes to policy.

Smaller newspaper than usual

A Crawfordville woman who hit and killed a bicyclist on Shadeville Highway back in September 2021, pleaded no contest to vehicular homicide, a second degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in state prison.

The Wakulla County Commission ordered a countywide mandatory evacuation ahead of landfall of Tropical Storm Helene, which is projected to be a Category 3 hurricane with storm surge estimated to be 10 to 15 feet.
