Jury recommends death penalty for Hertz by 10-2

After a week of testimony, it took a 12 person jury only an hour to return a recommendation that Guerry Wayne Hertz should face the death penalty for a double murder.
Hertz, along with co-defendants Jason Looney and Jimmy Dempsey, was convicted in 1999 of the murder of Melanie King and Keith Spears that took place back in July 1997 in a home invasion robbery.

Rick Myhre has been acting as superintendent since he won the election back in August.
He said then, as superintendent-elect, that he felt it was still the term of Superintendent Bobby Pearce, who had stepped back to give Myhre a chance to begin implementing changes.
