TALLAHASSEE – Former Florida Gov. Kenneth “Buddy” MacKay, who was thrust into the state’s top executive office in 1998 because of the death of Lawton Chiles, died peacefully during an afternoon nap on New Year’s Eve surrounded by his wife and sons.

The seventh ranked Wakulla High wrestling team hosted and competed in the FHSAA 1A District 2 Duals on Monday, December 30th, featuring Godby, Liberty County, Marianna, No. 9 Florida High, and No. 4 Suwannee. Wakulla and Suwannee were favored to emerge from the fray as the top two in the district.

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occured when deputies responded to a call about a woman in Sopchopppy on Dec. 22.

Correction

A front page story last week headlined “Local Realtor found guilty of tax evasion” was not correct. The story, which came from a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, which prosecuted the case, did not specify that Sedita Cayson, the Realtor, was charged with five counts of attempting to evade or defeat tax and five counts of willful failure to file return. Cayson was not found guilty of evading taxes, only of willful failure to file.
While the subheadline explained that “Sedita Cayson failed to file income tax returns between 2017-2021,” the main headline was incorrect.
