Jury recommends death penalty for Hertz by 10-2

After a week of testimony, it took a 12 person jury only an hour to return a recommendation that Guerry Wayne Hertz should face the death penalty for a double murder.
Hertz, along with co-defendants Jason Looney and Jimmy Dempsey, was convicted in 1999 of the murder of Melanie King and Keith Spears that took place back in July 1997 in a home invasion robbery.

The high schools of Wakulla and Suwannee have engaged in some epic battles over the course of their storied histories. Wakulla enjoyed success for a number of years, but for the past two seasons the pendulum has swung back in favor of Coach John Wainwright and company.
