Deputy with complaints is suspended

The commander of road patrol deputies at the Wakulla County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Major Dale Evans, was reportedly suspended and placed on paid administrative leave on Thursday pending an internal affairs investigation.
Evans, who had approached the Sun with concerns about a hostile workplace environment at the sheriffโ€™s office and those concerns were published in a story in last weekโ€™s newspaper, was suspended on Thursday, Aug. 14, over an additional series of memos he filed at the sheriffโ€™s office complaining about Colonel Herman โ€œChuckโ€ Whaley, who oversees the Criminal Investigations Division.

Klees: Team is looking for guys to step up

Last yearโ€™s Wakulla War Eagle team were a young bunch, says Head Coach Scott Klees.
This year, he says, heโ€™s expecting those guys to grow up and be the teamโ€™s leaders.
Those players include Owen Klees at quarterback, son of the coach, a senior this year and coming off being named FCAโ€™s Player of the Year last year. He is also the punter, and expected to play defense as a safety in certain packages.
Heath Milligan will also get some playing time as quarterback as well.

Deputy contends sheriffโ€™s office is hostile workplace

A deputy in the Wakulla County Sheriffโ€™s Office, part of the command staff, is claiming Sheriff Jared Miller fosters a hostile workplace environment.
Major Dale Evans, a longtime sheriffโ€™s deputy who is over the officeโ€™s road patrol unit, filed a complaint against Sheriff Miller a couple of years ago โ€“ that was resolved, but he has filed new complaints about the office.

Controversy over track

Runners object to the closing of the Paul Hoover Track to the public

A number of local runners attended last weekโ€™s school board meeting to object to the Paul Hoover Track at Wakulla High School being closed to the public.
The speakers included Stan Linton, former Wakulla runner under Track Coach Paul Hoover who went on to run at FSU and later made it to Olympic trials.

Jury acquits Brian Taff after 1 day felony trial

After a one-day trial last week for a charge of trafficking in methamphetamine, a six-person jury returned a not guilty verdict against Brian Taff.
The trial was held on Tuesday, July 22, with Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith presiding.

County commissioners passed a proclamation praising Kevin Carter of Attack One Fire Management Services for earning the designation as the Small Business Administrationโ€™s State Rural Small Business Owner of the Year.

Wakulla County Commissioners discussed the possibility of lowering property taxes this year, but seemed to acknowledge it would be unlikely as they face annual maintenance costs for the new radio system upwards of $500,000 a year.
