A handful of citizens concerned about ongoing overdevelopment of homes in the county complained about the rezoning of 50 acres off Martin Luther King Memorial Drive for residential development.

It was probably the most exciting four quarters of scoreless football you could watch. Then, for the second week in a row, Wakulla went to double overtime โ but this time, the Wakulla War Eagles came out on top, 13-7 for the win โ and the crown as district champion.

There were two crashes last Tuesday, Oct. 7, hours apart,that resulted in critical injuries to people. The first crash was around 1:25 p.m. near Hudson Park on U.S. Highway 319 when a pedestrian walking along the highway reportedly stepped out in front of a box truck and was hit.
Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith has been asked to recuse himself from cases with attorneys David Kemp and Stephen Webster

Two attorneys have asked that Wakulla Circuit Judge Layne Smith recuse himself from all their cases after the judge became frustrated in a civil hearing and made some intemperate remarks. Attorneys David Kemp of Crawfordville and Stephen Webster of Tallahassee filed a motion for Judge Smith to recuse himself from the civil case, claiming his courtroom comments back on Sept. 23 showed bias towards them. The civil cases deal with a series of probate cases with Lowell Raker Jr., represented by Kemp and Webster, suing Linda Vause, a countersuit by Vause against Raker, and the estate of Janie Glover Raker.
Eagle Scout Declan Walsh was presented with a certificate of appreciation at the Oct. 6 county commission meeting for his project at Mashes Sands with an enclosed outdoor shower. Parks Director Cody Solburg presented Walsh with the certificate.

County commissioners heard a presentation from consultants at Kimley-Horn and debated impact fees, ultimately voting 5-0 to accept the report presented but not to move forward with the second step for a rate study.

The Wakulla Animal Group unveiled a microchip scanning station at Azalea Park on Thursday, Oct. 2, in an effort to reunite lost pets with their owners.

The Wakulla War Eagles took care of business against the Fort Walton Beach Vikings on Friday night, winning 30-22. And it wasnโt as close as the final score makes it sound: The War Eagles were up 30-7 in the third quarter when Head Coach Scott Klees decided to put the second string and some JV players in. The Vikings scored twice to narrow the margin, but the outcome was never in doubt.

The Wakulla War Eagles got themselves where they want to be: a winning record and a win over district rival Suwannee. The War Eagles are 3-2 and 1-0 in the district with Friday nightโs 30-23 win over the Bulldogs.
