About 40 citizens turned out for a โ€œrecycling summitโ€ last week, concerned over the end of the countyโ€™s roadside recycling pick up.
The event, hosted by Keep Wakulla County Beautiful, was held at the community center on Tuesday, Dec. 9.

Rotary provides hydroponic garden to culinary program

Rotary Club of Wakulla held a ribbon cutting last week for the hydroponic garden it donated to the culinary arts program at Wakulla High School.
The hydroponic unit was received about a month prior and for 35 days students had been growing food and herbs.

Sex offender Donovan Sauleda was in Wakulla Circuit Court last week to resolve his local charges before going off to the federal Bureau of Prisons to serve a 60-year sentence for possession of child pornography and production and distribution of obscene material portraying a child.

Land swap off the table

Administrator says county isnโ€™t interested in land trade with forest service

A decades-old proposal for a land swap between Wakulla County and the U.S. Forest Service is off the table, according to County Administrator David Edwards.
In a recent interview, Edwards said that Assistant County Administrator Somer Pell was sending a letter to the forest service that would say that Wakulla County is โ€œno longer interested at this time.โ€

About the time the Wakulla Sun was being sent to the printer last week with a story about local businessman David McQuary complaining about his treatment by the county, he had a meeting with County Administrator David Edwards and County Commissioner Ralph Thomas โ€“ and McQuary said the county officials made him a deal that took care of his concerns.

An inmate reportedly had the handgun inside the jail โ€“ perhaps for more than a month

A Wakulla County Jail inmate may have smuggled a handgun inside the facility when he was arrested โ€“ and had it inside the jailโ€™s general population for more than a month, according to sources close to the matter.

David McQuary has made claims of being bullied before.
A couple of years ago, the former owner of Wildwood Golf Course complained that County Administrator David Edwards was not negotiating in good faith for the county to purchase the golf course, which the county wanted to use as a way to get rid of excess treated wastewater.
