- Last weekโs front page story on the county commission meeting that included a brief on the amount of funding for Florida Wild Mammal Association gave the wrong amount. The commission voted 4-1 to give $8,500 to the group which cares for injured and orphaned animals.
โข The On the Horizon calendar gave the wrong time for the county commission meetings. The meeting time for county commission meetings has been changed to 6 p.m. as of November.
We regret the errors.

National Newspaper Week: Local newspapers keep communities strong
By DEAN RIDINGS
Americaโs Newspapers
Strong communities donโt just happen. They rely on connection โ residents knowing whatโs going on, businesses reaching the customers who keep them open, and citizens having the facts to make good decisions. Local newspapers provide that connection in ways no other source can.
In todayโs fractured media environment, trust is the rarest commodity. Confidence in โthe mediaโ is low. Only 18% of Americans say they trust news on social platforms, and fewer than one in four trust cable networks. But nearly two-thirds say they trust their local newspaperโmore than double the confidence placed in most other outlets.
